Product Description Abstract: Treatment of pain in patients with a difficult co-existence of substance abuse disorder. Opioids may be used successfully to relieve pain in such a patient population control, but the doctor must have a general understanding of addictive behavior and the early signs of abuse. The challenge is not in the treatment of pain, but the determination of true pain of drug-seeking behavior. In addition, several myths of opioid use, such as iatrogenic addiction and risk of disciplinary action as unfounded. General guidelines and open communication between patient and doctor can be used in controlling pain.
